Volvo VADIS installation instructions

This page describes steps I took to successfully install VADIS on computers running Windows XP and Windows 7.
I'm pretty sure these procedures apply also to other versions (year, language), so try them even if you have such a different version.

VADIS 2005 A, English Language Edition:
(Tested on Windows XP Home and Professional, both with Service Pack 2, English)
(Tested on Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, English)
(Tested on Windows 7, Enterprise, English)

  1. If the installation program doesn't start automatically, run setup.bat manually.
On Windows 7 quit without installing anything, right-click setup.bat on the DVD, go to "Properties / Compatibility" tab and select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP Service Pack 3"; then run setup.bat manually.
  2. Choose "Customized" installation type.  Select all components for installation (you may deselect Acrobat Reader if it's already installed on your computer).
  3. Click "Next".  Wait for files to be copied onto your hard drive.
  4. Start VADIS by clicking it's desktop icon.
On Windows 7 first right-click this icon, go to "Properties / Compatibility" tab and select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP Service Pack 3".
  5. When prompted, enter User ID and Password and click "System configuration".
  6. Create a new user, let's say User ID: ADMIN, Password: ADMIN.  Make sure to click "Select All" and "International Misc" before clicking "Create new user".
  7. Log in as your new user.

    Notes:

I didn't have to change my computer's date (it was April 4, 2011).

If you do not wish to copy over 4 gigabytes of files onto your hard drive, select "Configurator" right after the installation program starts, then choose "Use info on local DVD" and make sure Configurator detected your DVD drive letter correctly (see "Locations" tab for this).  Then proceed normally: choose "Customized" and follow the instructions above.

VADIS 2003 C/D, Swedish Language Edition:
(Tested on Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2, English)

  1. Change system date to February 2003.
  2. Run setup.bat and choose "Recommended" installation type.  Wait for the installer to copy all the files onto your hard drive.
  3. Start VADIS by clicking it's desktop icon.
  4. When prompted, enter User ID and Password and click "System configuration".
  5. Create a new user, let's say User ID: ADMIN, Password: ADMIN.  Make sure to click "Select All" before clicking "Create new user".
  6. Log in as your new user.
  7. Log out and close the program.
  8. Edit file c:\info\vvindex\cdinfo.ini to change warning and expiration time values to some bigger ones.  I used 1500 and 1800 days, respectively.
  9. Now you can set your computer's clock back to current date.

    Notes:
I wasn't able to install this version of VADIS in "run directly off the CD" mode (Windows lacked some *.dll files).

Other notes:
If you didn't receive User ID and Password with your copy, Google Groups has it for you.
